I have a new book being printed this coming week, Out of the Storm is the sequel to Beyond the Wind. It is about a gay kid who is charged with the felony of Knowingly Infecting Another with HIV.
I wrote this story due to my experiences working with a 14-year-old gay kid back in 1987. The kid sold himself down at the Loop near the State Capitol, and despite my constant lectures to play safe, he contracted HIV through his unsafe sex practices.
On the night he was diagnosed with the virus, he came to my house, asking me to write a book so that others like him could learn from his mistakes. I did so, ten years after he died of AIDS complications, and that book, published in New York sold over 10,000 copies.
Now, I have written its sequel and we’ll see how well that particular book does.
